At any point in our life, we may face hardships or
circumstances such that we need counseling or hospitalization to:
- restore our sense of well being
- enjoy personal or social relationships
- succeed in school
- be productive at work
An important part of our health community is the Behavioral
Health program. These services are well respected by clinicians and staffed by
caring professionals. We offer a welcoming and safe place to be during a time of
personal crisis. With only 12 beds, our staff is able to take the time to
provide very personal care to each patient. We offer a broad range of services
close to home and completely confidential.
Inpatient care may be the right choice for adults:
- who present a danger to themselves or others
- are unable to care for themselves
The goals of inpatient care are to help the person:
- Move past a state of crisis.
- Improve coping skills
- Return to self care and greater self confidence
- Safely move through a drug dependence crisis
We also offer a very strong outpatient program including:
- Emergency Psychiatric Assessments in the Emergency Department
- Crisis outreach and intervention in the client’s home, school, or community
- Case management services linking individuals from the jail or in-patient unit to appropriate outpatient services
- Case Management for patients with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and
chemical abuse and who need an integrated plan of treatment. Services may
include:
- assessment
- individual counseling
- group counseling
- referral to rehabilitation programs and/or case management following
discharge from the hospital or release from jail.
- Alcohol Jail Program – Group counseling for incarcerated men or women dealing
with substance abuse issues.
- Mobile Treatment Team – After a mental health evaluation and consultation with
the psychiatrist, medication can be provided for individuals incarcerated when
appropriate. Prescriptions can be provided upon release as a bridge to an
outpatient appointment. Medication grants are available for people who need
funding for medication until other resources are put in place.
We are proud of the care we give and the progress our client create for
themselves. We believe:
- People can recover from emotional challenges or mental illness.
- Consumers are the experts in their own experience and our role is to help
create the change they want
- Consumers have the ability and the right to make their own decisions
- Staff and consumers should work together as partners in recovery with mutual respect and trust and in a positive environment
- Each consumer should leave the program with a sense of hope for the future.
- All things are possible and change occurs in small steps
- That by dedicating ourselves to the emotional health of intervals our entire
community benefits
- Investing in ongoing training for our staff creates a knowledgeable team that
provides care of the highest quality
Behavioral Health Services are provided through health insurances and other

pay. The Behavioral Health Unit is a part of the greater acute-care hospital
under the auspices of Wyoming County, and certified for operation by the New
York State Office of Mental Health and New York State Department of Health.
The hospital-based Behavioral Health Services primarily serve residents of
Wyoming County and also care for residents of Genesee, Orleans, Allegany,
Livingston, Erie, Monroe and other outlying counties as needed.
